The senior year of high school is an exciting time for students and their families, especially the months of April and May, when many special events are planned to honor our graduates. This communication is intended as a reference for these upcoming events. This communication can also be found on the Park Hill High School website. Mid-year graduates are welcome to participate in all senior activities. Please contact us if your graduate will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony on May 19 because of school, work or military obligations. We will make arrangements for you to pick up the diploma packet after Sunday, May 19.

 

Caps & Gowns: Jostens will be at school to deliver cap and gown orders on Friday, April 12 and Thursday, April 18 during lunch. After this date, paid for items may be picked up at the reception desk. Unpaid orders can be picked up at Mrs. Melott’s desk in the office and must be paid in cash. If your student has not yet ordered a cap and gown, or to arrange payment via credit card, call Jostens (816) 523-4900. Grads should try on their cap and gown immediately, then hang up the gown to diminish wrinkles.

 Monday, April 22 - Senior Parent Celebration: A special event for all parents/guardians of seniors will be held Monday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. This event is for parents only—no seniors. Come enjoy a light dinner and hear pertinent information from Dr. Kincheloe and our senior class sponsors about expectations for the final weeks before graduation. Check your email for an EVITE to this event and please RSVP. We hope you will join us. There will be a special surprise for the parents!

Wednesday, May 1 - Senior Awards Night: Senior Awards will be presented at a special program at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Students receiving scholarships, grants and awards will be recognized by faculty and invited guests. Seniors are aware they need to advise Ms. Capra in room 109 by April 12th of their awards and scholarships so their information can be added to the program.  Keep your eyes open for further details to be emailed after Spring Break. Dress clothing is required. A reception will follow this program at the school

 Saturday, May 4 – Junior/Senior Prom at Hilton KCI Hotel, followed by the After Prom Party at Power Play:

Prom: 6:30 to 11:00 p.m. - Dinner/dance tickets will be sold during lunch April 25–May 1: $50-seniors / $55-juniors & guests. Students bringing a guest must have a guest form completed and returned to the main office by Monday, April 29. Guest forms can be picked up in the main office and will be posted to Schoology after Spring Break. Guests must be under 21 years of age, have a competed and approved guest form, and bring their photo ID to be admitted into the dance. After Prom is Sunday, May 5, midnight to 3:00 a.m. Tickets will be sold at school

April 29 – May 3 for $10, or will be available at the door for $15. After Prom Party is open to all seniors, juniors and their guests. Students don’t have to attend Prom to attend After Prom. A permission slip signed by parents MUST be presented in order for a student to leave the After Prom event early. If a student leaves the event, they will not be allowed to re-enter.

After Prom Party tickets will be sold for $10 when purchased during lunch at school between April 29 and May 3. Tickets will be available at the door for $15. 

This event is open to all Seniors, Juniors and their guests. Students do not have to attend Prom to attend the After Prom Party.  Full buffet, games, rides and PRIZES!! Come join us AFTER Prom to continue the fun!


 

Advanced Placement Test Dates:  Advanced Placement Exams will begin on May 6 and continue through May 17, with make-up testing being May 22 – 24. Thursday, May 16 - Senior Fun Day: The entire senior class is invited to Main Event at

8081 NW Roanridge Rd.,Kansas CityMO 64151 from 10:00 – 2:00. Seniors can hang out and play games with their high school friends.

 

Friday, May 17 - Senior Breakfast / Graduation Practice: A free breakfast will be served from 8-8:45 a.m. in the cafeteria. All seniors who plan to participate in graduation need to attend practice from 9 to 11:00 a.m. in the lower gym. Caps and gowns are not needed for practice. At practice, seniors must return their laptops to avoid being placed on the fine list. This is a good time for seniors to pay any remaining fines prior to graduation day. Yearbooks will be available on this day. Seniors who do not plan to participate in graduation, should contact Mrs. Melott at 359-5542 or melottda@parkhill.k12.mo.us  by May 14 

Saturday, May 18 - Northland Career Center Graduation:

Seniors attending classes at NCC will graduate on Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m. at the KCI Expo Center.  The last day for seniors at NCC is May 3. Graduation practice is May 9 at 8:00 a.m., followed by Attendance Awards at 10:00 a.m. at NCC in the Cafeteria.  Please call Northland Career Center with any questions. (816) 858-5505. 

Sunday, May 19 - Class of 2019 Commencement: The commencement ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium Arena in downtown Kansas City at 301 W. 13th St.  You may invite as many family members and friends as you like—tickets and reservations are not required. We encourage you and your family members to arrive early to the ceremony to guarantee convenient seating. A special seating area on the main level will be available for guests with disabilities. Municipal Auditorium is located just off Broadway on 13th Street between Wyandotte and Central. The auditorium parking garage entrances are located on Central and Wyandotte between 12th and 13th Streets. The fee for the parking garage is $12 per vehicle. Additional parking (some free) may be available on nearby streets or city lots. Carpooling is encouraged.

Graduates are to report to Municipal Auditorium by 4:30 p.m. dressed and ready to march in cap & gownCaps and gowns are to be worn by all graduates. Men should wear dress shirts, ties, dress slacks (long pants-no jeans) and dress shoes (no tennis shoes/sandals).  Ladies should wear dresses, skirts or slacks (no jeans) and dress shoes. Caps are positioned level on the head with the tassel on the right. Caps & gowns must be worn as issued and not disfigured in any way (no tape, signs, arm bands, flowers, etc.). Graduates will line up in alphabetical order. Grads may not have cell phones or purses with them during the ceremony. A family member should keep them until after the event.

 

Graduates will receive a blank red diploma holder on stage and will pick up a large white packet containing their diploma after the ceremony at tables near the graduate seating area. All fines must be cleared through the bookkeeper’s office and all discipline obligations completed before the diploma is released.  If your child has a fine, you have been mailed a fine letter at the end of each quarter, and parents can also check fine status in Infinite Campus. Please clear up these matters prior to graduation day.

 

Photos of each graduate will be taken during the ceremony by a professional photography service, Grad Images. Visit their website at www.gradimages.com/Preregistration to pre-register for your graduation photos. Proofs will be sent to you after the ceremony via email. You may purchase prints, if you choose.

The Park Hill communications team will be recording the Park Hill High School graduation ceremony. DVDs will be sold at Senior Parent Night on April 22 and at graduation for $25.00 and can be paid with cash/check or added to your Infinite Campus fee account. We recognize commencement as an important and significant ceremony in everyone’s life. It should not be confused with a celebration, which occurs after the ceremony is completed. We ask for your support in maintaining an atmosphere of class and reverence throughout the ceremony. Air horns, noisemakers, Silly String, bathroom tissue, balloons, etc., are not appropriate accessories for a commencement ceremony.
