Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

I hope this finds you and your loved ones healthy.  The school year is about to begin.  We cannot know how the year will unfold; we cannot even be certain how the month will unfold.  But we do know we are ready for education to continue and September 8, 2020 is at hand.  For this year’s schooling to be a success we will all have to work together.  I want you to feel comfortable relying on Park Hill High School to keep the students and staff as safe as possible and to provide the best education possible.  Students, staff, and parents will all have to work together to optimize our standards for safety and our goals for education.

I have included some important information below that I believe we need to share or review for the immediate start of school.  For clarity, I am taking the liberty of listing bullet points, rather, than my usual, breezy prose.

• Masks must be worn at all times, by all individuals, while in the school building.  (The only exceptions being any time an individual is alone in a room for an extended period of time and while eating in the cafeteria.)

• Tuesday, September 8, is a “B” (last name L-Z) day. Wednesday, September 9, is an “A” (last name A-K) day. Both days are RED for students in Split Block courses. Thursday and Friday of that week are WHITE days. Students in the Online School who report to campus for their music or debate classes will follow the same schedule as indicated above.

• Students in the Online School who report to campus for their music or debate classes will follow the same schedule as indicated above.

• We ask you to not drop off students, and student drivers not arrive in the parking lot, before 7:30. Upon arrival students should proceed immediately to the cafeteria for breakfast or to class.

• Communications between Park Hill High School and students will be through Schoology or the student’s Park Hill e-mail account.  Both should be checked daily.

• Included are attachments which have both student and parent expectations with respect to distance learning.

• We have asked teachers to be certain student grades are current and posted every Wednesday by 3:00 beginning September 16th, and we ask that you view those grades each Wednesday sometime after 3:00.

• We have asked teachers to post the next seven days of assignments every Wednesday by 3:00 beginning September 16th, and we ask that you review those assignments each Wednesday sometime after 3:00.

• We ask you to be sure students who are not under the immediate and direct supervision of a staff member leave campus each day by 3:10.

• We all need to inform one another, within the bounds of appropriate confidentiality, of any important health issues in order to further our collective safety.

• Our Open House event this year, scheduled for September 14th, will be virtual and details will be forthcoming.

• The building will be open for face-to-face students to familiarize themselves with their classroom location and one-way hallways on Monday evening, September 7, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Please adhere to a “students only” format and remind your students they must wear their masks. Students must bring their schedule with them.

• If you have a student with special needs and want to help familiarize them with the classes and hallways before the event on September 7, please set up a time for a special escort by calling us @ 816-359-4110.

• Online students coming to school for music or debate must enter through the front door and may be in the building 5 minutes before and after class.
